October 2009 Letter from the Prez

Letters from the Prez

It’s September 28 and today reminds me of Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day. The wind is really blowing and fall is definitely coming. I hope everyone has their summer antenna projects done or are at least close to finishing.

At the last meeting I presented on the ARHAB (Amateur Radio High Altitude Ballooning) and this month I will present on the new WØJH repeater. There should be a lot of pictures. The whole process of putting up a new repeater was well documented. November will be Mike NØODK. I’m trying to work out an exchange with the Polk County Wisconsin club for December.

Remembering the Edmond Fitzgerald at Split Rock Lighthouse is coming soon. If you are interested, contact Dave WØOXB at radioham.org. I know it’s a fun time up on the north shore (and that is just from all the stories). We’re also working on an Echolink hookup with LSAC so you’ll be able to talk to the crew at Split Rock Lighthouse through the SARA repeater -- even if you can’t make the event.

We had the first SARA BBQ at George KCØWOA and Debbie's KCØAPL place. We had a great turn out and great food. Thank to the Madline's for hosting this event. Many of you got a tour of the new repeater also. I can see this becoming an annual event.

At the last meeting, I announced that I will not be running for a third term as president. It is important to keep more people involved in the leading of the group and it is time to for someone else to take the reigns. All members are welcome to run for any elected position they would like to perform. It would be awesome if we were to have an election with multiple people running for positions. This would be a great way to give our membership a choice. For those of you who may be interested in running for an office, it is great way to get involved while providing a service for SARA. It is also very rewarding. Please consider running for position with SARA. You won’t regret the time you spend with the group!

Thanks and 73,
RicKØBRennan
SARA President
