February 14 2009 - Presentation on Information Security

In today's technology, Information Security is something we must all know and deal with. If we ignore it, we run the risk of becoming a victim to it. We will have two presenters at this meeting, Aaron Wampach and John KCØUHY. They will inform us of what is happening and how to protect ourselves from the high tech scams and thieves. John will also give a short presentation on the new SARA website.

Bios:

Aaron Wampach is a security professional with over 15 years of industry experience. He has held numerous operational, systems integration, network and application security positions in some of America's largest public corporations. Aaron Wampach holds both CISSP and CISM certifications and is a Ph.D candidate. He is on the teaching staff of two universities and works full time as a security consultant. He loves the time that he gets to spend with his students sharing his knowledge and takes great pride in his teaching and what his students accomplish. In his spare time he enjoys travelling, making music and hacking classic cars.

John Harvard is an IT professional with over 30 years of industry experience. He started his career at the University of the Witwatersrand Computer Center in South Africa, in operating systems design and development, where he was responsible for one of the largest online networked terminal systems in the world, in 1977 implementing one of the first 24x7 network operations and one of the first email systems. He managed the design, implementation, IT infrastructure and distribution business systems for the South African Coal industry domestic and export marketing and distribution syndicate . He has managed projects designing and developing retail banking and brokerage business systems, has held IT enterprise architecture positions and managed enterprise class IT projects for large corporations in South Africa and the USA. He runs and manages his own Internet based systems and IT is still one of the most fun things he can find to do. In his spare time he enjoys photography which interest he developed during his time with the Central Photographic Unit of the South African Air Force. He enjoys non competitive cycling and backpacking in wilderness areas. In 2005 he expanded his life long interest in radio technology by becoming a licensed amateur operator in the US.
