How Was Your Field Day?

Every June, hams thoughts turn to Field Day (FD). That fun outdoor activity with heat,

mosquitoes, men trying to pretend they can cook, and radios, antennas, and operators that

fight tooth and nail with Murphy. One of my first dates with my future wife of 51 years was

taking her to my home club's Field Day. Who says men can't be caring and sensitive?

Off Topic, Don't Read: A Journey of a Different Kind

Almost five years ago, I retired from the corporate world to contemplate other worlds. Of course ham radio, but also other things of a human, rather than nerd, orientation.

32 + 64 = ARRRGHH!

Last spring I decided I needed some variety in ham radio. Not an earth shaking change, but evolutionary. First of all, my laptop was getting long in the tooth, and appeared be in its senior years, just like me. So the first change would be more horsepower, more RAM, and more storage. It should be portable, able to run the rig control software, do web stuff, you know the drill. And I framed the discussion with my handler in terms that the old laptop could be given to our daughter's family with five grandchildren. Permission granted.
